 Following on from the article on long tail marketing , I thought it would be interesting to spend some time looking at the different kinds of keyphrases and which ones work and which ones don’t. Obviously, this is important for your gaming affiliate site as your traffic is precious.
If you take a look at your web analytics software you’ll notice that the majority of search queries that attracted visitors to your affiliate site consist of more than one word. They’re usually made up of the main term (eg. Casino) and one or more qualifying keywords (eg. Bonus). The qualifying keywords are the ones that are important to understand as they are the key to delivering quality traffic.
Some examples of the different types of qualifying keywords follow based on the theme of bingo, for a bingo affiliate site.
The first of these are price based qualifiers, for example, ‘free bingo’. Although you might get a fair amount of traffic on these phrases, the quality of the traffic is usually poor.
The second are comparison qualifiers, for example, ‘compare bingo sites’. If you have a bingo comparison website then these are the type of keywords you should be looking for.
The third are intended use qualifiers, such as ‘90 ball bingo’. These are very specific, the user knows what they want, and they should
convert well.
Other qualifiers include brand based ones (such as ‘ladbrokes bingo’ or ‘jackpot joy bingo’) which convert very well and location based ones
(such as ‘uk bingo’ or ‘bingo espana’) which also convert well.
The best qualifiers are action qualifiers (such as ‘play bingo’ or ‘play bingo now’) which are the best converters as the user demonstrates a
