 Last night on UK terrestrial TV a gambling affiliate site providing alerts for poker, casino, bingo and bookmakers was given £200,000 for a 30% share of their business by a well-known UK entrepreneur. The BBC2 show, Dragon’s Den , saw two of the owners of Jack Media , a London based media buying agency specializing in online gaming, stand in front of a panel of five businessmen and women and pitch to them for investment.
The two business owners, Emmie Matthews & Ed Stevens, were initially looking for £200,000 for a 10% share of their business. Their UK focused website gaming alerts lets users download an application that allows you to receive up to date offers, advice and bonuses direct to your desktop from all the major online casinos, online poker sites, online bingo sites and online sports books. As usual on the show, it was not an easy deal. Millionaire Duncan Bannatyne had doubts about the viability of an online bingo business, but Theo Paphitis pointed out that his wife spent every night glued to online bingo at home. However, their existing businesses proved to a problem for the panel. Peter Jones suggested that there was a conflict of interest between their media agency and the Gaming Alerts business and declared himself out, whilst Deborah Meaden felt that she would need too large a stake in Gaming Alerts to make any offer viable; she was also out. And Emmy and Ed appeared to be on their way out when James Caan and Duncan Bannatyne both felt their projections were too ambitious and also declared themselves out. Only one Dragon remained, and Theo Paphitis showed his hand. In a dramatic twist, he asked Emmy and Ed to come back with a better deal than the original 10% on offer. After tense conferring and counter-offers, Gaming Alerts was on its way to winning the jackpot, having secured £200,000 investment from Theo in return for 30% of the company. This story is a great inspiration for affiliates everywhere and shows how valuable the affiliate business model has become in online gaming.
